Borah Makes A Statement
When Cody Spjute knocked in the first three pointer of the night just eight seconds into the ballgame, Borah made sure they never let Mountain View get the lead the rest of the contest. The Lions were shooting well early and jumped out to an 18-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. There were a few times where the defending state champions crawled back into the game and at one point, they even cut the deficit to two right before the end of the third quarter.
Thankfully for head coach Cary Cada, Ben Tucakovic came to the rescue as he finished the game with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Borah now has a one game lead over Mountain View and has cemented themselves as the team to beat with eight games left in the regular season. For the Mavericks, they need to find a way to get Tanner Percifield going again as he struggled last night scoring just two in a game where points were at a premium.
Timberline finally defeated a team ahead of them in the standings as they dominated their rival, Boise High in a pink out game to raise awareness for breast cancer. The Wolves are usually led by Jarid Downey scoringwise, but last night Jackson Reed was key as he had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Downey didn't do too bad himself as he knocked in some three pointers and finished with 14. Boise drops from 4th to 6th in the standings and will try to move above .500 in conference play against Capital on Friday.
The Eagle Mustangs finally got back on track knocking off Meridian 51-42, but it was the efforts of a few role players and not just Braiden Shaw that helped get the job done. DJ Dean led the Mustangs with 12 points and Nygill Thomas was big off the bench as he had 8. Meridian has suddenly lost two in a row and coach Mike Graefe will have to go back to the drawing board as the Warriors have slipped to 8th place in the conference.
In a battle of two inconsistent teams, Centennial maintained sole possession of third place in the conference with an impressive 58-44 win at Rocky Mountain. Landon Kissinger was his usual self as he had 15 points and Malique Hill was big in carrying the scoring load as he had 13. The Patriots host Meridian on Friday with another prime opportunity to inch closer to Borah and Mountain View for the conference crown.
It seems the Vallivue Falcons are finding their groove. Every coach I have talked to has said the Falcons have way more talent then their record shows and they are starting to click offensively as they beat Capital 57-30 last night. Jacob Betancourt led the Falcons in scoring and senior Jacob Doty had 10 points as well.
