The Light at the End of the Tunnel
The Eagle Mustangs are in a tailspin right now and are looking to end a four game losing streak. Unfortunately for them, the defending state champions are coming to their gym tonight so the odds will be stacked against them. The key to this game believe it or not, is the health of a couple key stars. Eagle's Braiden Shaw leads the squad in points and rebounds per game, but he tweaked his ankle against Timberline and is questionable for tonight. Mountain View's second leading scorer, Tanner Percifield, is also questionable after having migraines all week long. Emotions will be running high as tonight is Eagle's senior night as the celebrate one of their best senior classes in school history.
The Borah Lions just keep on rolling on and may have avoided their final hurdle to ending the conference season with 17 straight wins as they blew past Boise High in the 2nd half on Wednesday. If there is a knock against Borah, its their lack of depth as they don't have a true 6th man that they can rely on for scoring. Tonight, they will welcome in the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies who have won 3 of their last 4 contests. Rocky is looking to regroup after getting beat by 20 at Vallivue on Wednesday night.
The most intriguing matchup of the night is Timberline at Vallivue. The Wolves responded on Wednesday by beating Eagle on the road, but who knows what team will show up on a given night. Jarid Downey hasn't quite been the same after he missed the Mountain View game and if the Wolves want to make it to the Idaho Center, they will need him to return to his normal self. Vallivue is fighting to still make it in the District Tournament, and on a night where they will honor their senior class, they will look to avenge a narrow defeat that Timberline gave them a few weekends ago.
The Boise Braves look to end a mini two game losing streak tonight as they travel to Meridian to take on the Warriors. It has been well documented on the show that Meridian is a completely different team when they play at home and add on top of it that they are on the outside of the District Tournament picture, look for the Warriors to play with an edge tonight. The Braves need to get their offense clicking again as it was in their win over Mountain View two weeks ago. Joe Simpson was held to just 7 points agains Borah and if they are going to win tonight, he needs to at least get to double figures.
The Centennial Patriots looked like a confused team two nights ago against Mountain View. Not quite the look of a team that was playing their best basketball heading into the District Tournament. Fortunately for the Patriots, they host the Capital Eagles tonight looking to get back on track. The Eagles surprised Timberline last Friday but faltered at Meridian on Wednesday. Capital needs to win out and get some help to have a chance to make the District Tournament, but the story tonight will be how the Patriots respond against a team they should beat.
