Can Timberline Rally as a Team to Upset Borah?
The Timberline basketball team has been very inconsistent throughout the course of the season and they were dealt a huge blow over the weekend as leading point scorer, Jarid Downey, was kicked off of the team by head coach, older brother Josh Downey, for a violation of team rules. First off, you have to commend coach Downey for making the right decision in a very difficult situation. Hopefully the team will rally around Jarid, much like they did against Mountain View two weeks ago and maybe they can get in a groove for the District Tournament. It will be a tough task tonight because the Borah Lions are on a 15 game winning streak and are trying to enter postseason play on a high note. Ben Tucakovic has taken over the SIC scoring lead and will try and maintain that throughout the next two games to be the regular season champion.
Boise High is coming off a thrilling one point win at Meridian over the weekend and will try and ride that momentum to another victory tonight at Centennial. The Patriots have been very inconsistent as well, but Aaron Maffey helped them avoid a losing streak as he scored 28 points against Capital in route to the big victory. Centennial is tied with Mountain View for the #2 seed and does not hold the tiebreaker, so they would most likely need to win both of their games this week to have a shot at the two seed. Boise is currently tied for 4th with Timberline and can not move up any higher than 4th for the District Tournament so they are completely focused on trying to play their best basketball and not worry about anyone else.
The Mountain View Mavericks need to get healthy and they need to do it quickly. They were completely exposed last Friday night at Eagle and struggled to even score in the 30's as they lost by double digits. Fortunately for them, they will get Tanner Percifield back tonight as he was having migraines all last week. They host the Vallivue Falcons who have been on a roll as of late. Scott Moore's group is starting to score consistently on offense and if they can continue that, they will be a tough out at the District Tournament.
All eyes will be on Meridian and Rocky Mountain tonight as the Warriors will be fighting for their season. If Rocky Mountain wins, then they will knock Meridian out of the District Tournament and in turn, would clinch their own spot and not have to worry on the final day of the regular season. To do that, they need to play better defense then they did last week as Meridian is starting to pick it up offensively behind Hayden Stout. Meridian is a different team on the road, but expect them to come ready to play as they know they have to win to keep their season alive.
The Eagle Mustang's ended a four game losing streak on Friday with a big win over the defending state champion Mountain View Mavericks. Emotions were running high at the Thunderdome as Eagle was honoring their senior class. On the flip side of that, the Capital Eagles will look to sweep the season series between these two as they say goodbye to a few stellar seniors. Capital is officially out of the District Tournament, but can play spoiler their final two games against Eagle and Borah.
