Get Ready for Thursday football!October 6, 2011, 3:31 pm Vallivue has the tough task this week of traveling to Eagle to take on the Mustangs. The Falcons got running back Mike Burk back last week, but will he and Parker Garner be able to score with the Tanner Mangum and the Mustangs? My most intriguing game of the night is Capital at Rocky Mountain. The Grizzlies are a juggernaut offensively, but the true test of the night will be to see if they can stop TJ Clarke and the Capital offense that seems to be hitting their stride. Rocky quarterback Riley Bradshaw is only a sophomore and his future looks bright. He already has amassed 1121 yards through the air with 12 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. Meridian plays at Centennial tonight in a matchup of two teams trying to rebound after tough losses last Friday. Centennial is still hurting on the injury front and Meridian will try and take advantage behind running back Hayden Stout. Stout is leading the conference with 724 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns. The final game of the night takes place at Bronco Stadium when Mountain View travels to take on Boise High. The Mavericks will try to avoid a let down game against the Braves after coming up big in a 38-14 win over Borah last Friday. The top ranked defense in the SIC will have to try and stop Braves quarterback Tanner Gustavsen who is third in the SIC with 1094 yards. |
Making the GradeMay 31, 2012, 12:40 pm The Washington State football program thought they had all of their scholarships sewn up and players would start coming up to Pullman in a couple of weeks to get familiar with the program. Little did they know that one of their recruits was not going to be academically eligible and it would open up a spot for someone else. That person was Mountain View's Austin Brown. The big defensive lineman got a call from Coach Choate, who moved from Boise State to Washington State this summer, to see if Austin would want to take a visit to Pullman. From there, everything seemed to work out in Brown's favor. WSU offered him a full ride scholarship and he went from getting little to none of his school paid for to a full ride in less than a few weeks. Brown was a staple in a stout Mountain View defense this past year and had a ridiculous 12 blocked kicks in his two years on the varsity roster. Another great story from the Treasure Valley this week is Rocky Mountain's Eli McCullough verbally committing to go to Boise State in the fall of 2013. Much like Brown, McCullough is a big force on the line and joins Joe Martarano and Alec Dhaenens as the three early Treasure Valley commits to play football at BSU in a couple of years. Tune into the show today to hear from McCullough as well as his head coach Jason Warr to see how motivated McCullough will be this year after relieving the pressure of choosing what school to go to. Less Than 24 Hours Away from Tip-offFebruary 29, 2012, 3:35 pm In the 4A, will anyone ruin a collision course between Twin Falls and Rigby? These two contenders have been the favorites all season long and have held the top two spots in the media poll the majority of the season. They both come into the State Tournament and have identical records of 21-2. The two teams from the Treasure Valley looking to make a splash are Skyview and Kuna. The Hawks are making their 10th consecutive State Tournament appearance and despite having that legacy, they will be under the radar this weekend. They open with Madison, who lost to Rigby in the District VI Title game and will be ready to go out of the gates. Kuna will play Moscow tomorrow and the Bears are a dangerous team. They defeated Post Falls towards the end of the season and have plenty of confidence heading into their 1st round matchup with the Kavemen, but the biggest question in this game is if anyone can stop Kuna's Tyler Dubowsky. The 3A State Tournament has been dominated by the Fruitland Grizzlies the past few seasons and in this year's bracket, they have a great draw. Arguably, the top three teams in the State are all on the other side of the bracket which should lay down the groundwork for the Grizzlies to at least make it to the State Championship. A couple of the other contenders are Filer, Kellogg and Weiser. All three of these teams are on the same side of the bracket and the matchup between Kellogg and Weiser tomorrow night should be an instant classic. With the exception of the 5A bracket, the Treasure Valley's best chance at bringing home a State Championship lies in the 2A ranks where three teams have a great chance to win it all. There are already people predicting a showdown between two teams in District III going at it with New Plymouth and Cole Valley Christian the early favorites. The other team from the Boise area that has made it to the State Tournament is North Star Charter. Cody Pickett is doing a phenomenal job in his 1st year coaching there and has already turned a losing program into a contender in a short time. The team that might pose the biggest threat to ruining an all District III Championship would be Kamiah. Already District Tournament time for Soccer?October 5, 2011, 3:30 pm The Girl's 5A is a different story. Timberline and Rocky Mountain had to play all their matches through the end before a regular season champion was decided. Rocky Mountain came out on top via a tiebreaker and will be the #1 seed going into the District Tournament. The Grizzlies better be on top of their game though, because Timberline has home field advantage hosting the District 3 Tournament. In the 4A, we talked on the show yesterday about Caldwell having to forfeit 8 games due to the use of two ineligible players. They still made it into the District Tournament, but their seed suffered as Skyview takes the top spot for the tourney that they will host this weekend. Stakes will be high because 5 teams from District 3 from both the boys and girls sides will make it into the 5A state tournament with the 5th place finisher having to compete in a play-in game to get into the draw. Those two play-in games will take place on the 15th in Twin Falls. Eagle, Meridian and Rocky Mountain host the boys and girls 5A State Tournaments starting on the 20th. |
A Little of Bit of Everything for the Long WeekendMay 24, 2012, 12:51 pm In our coverage of the event all week, it can be safe to say that this is the "Tour De France" of Women's Cycling and that many Olympians will be here this weekend. The race involves a little bit of everything and I am excited to see the wide array of road races that will start tonight with the speedy two mile time trial. Fortunately, the one black cloud over the event has been lifted after all of the stolen bikes have been returned and Boise can put on a good show for these stellar athletes. Oh and by the way, there is a $100,000 purse for the event. A story that might not get as much attention as it deserves is the Coeur D'Alene boys golf team filing for an appeal of Eagle winning the State Championship. If you remember right, last week Eagle's Colby Dean was initially disqualified for using a range finder before rules officials claimed that it was only a two stroke penalty and Dean was allowed to finish his round. If you have ever played golf, you know that the game is all about integrity and maintaining that to the highest level. With that being said, I am not quite sure why there is an appeal. Golf is very cut and dry with their rules. Either its a two-stroke penalty or its a disqualification, there should be no middle ground in that process. Lastly, a final congratulations to all of the State Champions over the last ten days. There are some unbelievable stories whether it was Mountain View girls track coach Mike Jossis ending his career on a high note winning back to back State Championships or the Rocky baseball team capping off an incredible season for their 1st State Championship in school history, it was fun watching everyone succeed on their respective playing fields this spring.
