A Showdown Tonight at Rocky
When it was time to get a general feel of how the conference was shaping up in 2012, nearly everyone told me that Rocky Mountain was the team to beat and the Eagle Mustangs were just behind them. Well, these two squads will be battling for 1st place in the SIC the next few nights and you can listen to tonights contest on 630 The Fan.
As we have seen with most marquee matchups, this game will be determined by how the starting pitchers set the tempo. Eagle's Brandon Brown will be headed to Oregon next fall, but still has some business to take care of at the high school level and he will be tested tonight against a Grizzlies lineup that does not have an easy out one through nine. The hard throwing lefty can strike out nearly anyone he faces, but control will be crucial tonight to make sure he does not give the Grizzlies any free passes. On the other side of the field, Rocky's Richie Kyro has been the heart and soul of this pitching staff throughout the past four years and will look to regroup from a shaky outing his last time out against Meridian. The question going into this game is can the Mustang lineup compete with the Grizzlies?
There is no doubt this game is the best matchup of the night, but don't sleep on a few other games around the Valley. One game I will be keeping my eye on is the rivalry series between Timberline and Boise. Quietly the Wolves are in 2nd place in the SIC and are starting to gain more confidence at the plate as the season progresses. They scored 13 runs on Tuesday against Borah and look to continue that against the Braves tonight.
Capital looks to regroup at Mountain View after getting embarrassed on Tuesday against Rocky Mountain. The good news for the Eagles is they will be sending out their #1 pitcher in Shawn Powers. Mountain View has a lot of speed at the top of their order with Branson Trube and will look to protect their home field.
The final two games will go a long way in determining District Tournament positioning when Meridian takes on Borah and Vallivue plays at Centennial.
