It All Comes Down to the Final Friday in October
Through eight games, its crazy to think that the fate of two teams comes down to one play, but that is the case with Meridian and Borah.
Back in the third week of the season when these two played, Borah's Hail Mary attempt as time expired was three inches short of the goal line vaulting Meridian to a 41-36 win. Now looking back on it, both teams are tied with one game to go, and Meridian holds the tiebreaker and the Warriors have a pretty good chance of moving on to the postseason. Now its time to move on with the previews for tomorrows games.
The Mountain View Mavericks clinched a playoff spot last Friday and with that, they relieved some pressure as they travel to Thunder Stadium to take on Eagle. Eagle has wrapped up the 5A SIC and is looking to cap off an undefeated regular season. Mountain View is locked into the third seed and will most likely be traveling up to Coeur D'Alene next weekend. The only way the Mavericks take the #2 seed is if they beat Eagle and Borah defeats Capital.
Borah plays Capital at Bronco Stadium in the first game of a doubleheader tomorrow night. Capital is rolling right now and although they have clinched a playoff spot, this game is very big because if they win, they will host Skyline in a first round matchup next Friday.
Meridian's path to the postseason is very simple: win and they are in. They host a struggling Vallivue team that has not been able to stop anyone lately and expect this one to be no different as Hayden Stout and Jake Berard will be very motivated to get a win and send the Warriors to the postseason.
The final two matchups have no impact on the playoffs, but these teams are still playing for pride and momentum heading into the offseason. Centennial travels to Rocky Mountain in a matchup of two of the younger teams in the 5A SIC that will be good for the next few years. The final showdown of the regular season is Timberline against Boise in the late game at Bronco Stadium. Timberline has been plagued by injuries all year long and Boise High is trying to get their first win of the season.
Be sure to tune into the show next week for a playoff preview of all the divisions as the playoff brackets will finally be set! Enjoy the games.
