State Volleyball Recap
At first glance, with five of the eight teams coming from the SIC in the 5A State Volleyball Tournament, you would have thought they would have had a good chance to come away with the title, but the only team left standing after the first round was defending state champion Rocky Mountain. After sweeping Borah, they were the only team that had a chance to bring home the crown but they fell in four sets to Post Falls in the semifinals. In the other semifinal match, it was an absolute classic. Idaho Falls got crushed in the first set 25-2 and lost the second set as well before coming back to win in five sets over Lake City. They then carried that momentum over to the championship and beat Post Falls while Lake City edged out Rocky Mountain for 3rd place.
In the 4A Volleyball Tournament, Skyview couldn't hang with Century in the title match as they fell in four sets. Fruitland came close in the 3A, but was edged by Snake River in five sets as it came down to the very end.
In other news, the team that survived the Kansas tiebreaker was Lake City and the Timberwolves will now be traveling to Eagle on Friday night. Despite putting their pads away last week before learning they still had a chance to extend their season, the Timberwolves first beat Post Falls 20-14 before downing Lewiston 7-0 in a tiebreaker format where each team got the ball at the 25 yard line with a chance to score. Finally, they beat Post Falls again 6-0 to leave no doubt that they would be the final team in the 5A playoff field. It will be interesting to see how they will respond on a short week against an Eagle team coming off their first loss looking to respond in a big way.
